Tips for RV Pest Control
Your RV is a cozy home away from home...which also makes it appealing for a range of pests. Rodents, bugs, and other critters can creep into the camper and set up shop. It's tough to keep nature out when you spend so much time in nature, but the following RV pest control tips can help. If you want more pest control tips or want to shop RVs for sale, visit 1st Choice Trailers. Our dealership is located in Goddard, Kansas, and we also serve those in Wichita.
Dealing With Mice
Mice are small creatures that can cause a surprising amount of damage.
For example, they can:
- Chew through wires.
- Damage the camper frame.
- Deposit droppings throughout the RV.
Here, prevention is key. Be sure to clear out all food and crumbs before storing your camper. The smell of food can entice mice to come inside the RV and make a home. It's also helpful to block any points of entry so it's much more challenging for mice to get inside.
If mice have already entered the RV, you can use mouse traps and rat poisons to keep them from causing more damage.
Dealing With Insects
Insects can be difficult to keep out of the RV. Their small size makes it easy to sneak in and go unnoticed for a while...until there's a high number of them.
The same prevention approach applies here as well. Always remove food from your camper as soon as possible and clean up any lingering crumbs. It only takes one or two bugs to find a food source and before long they brought their buddies back and now there's an insect infestation!
If insects have already found their way into the camper, you will need to take action according to the type of bug.
Dealing With Ants
Ants travel methodically. Simply follow their line to see where they entered your RV, then seal off that entry way point. If you want to get rid of the ants already inside your camper, use chemicals or you can vacuum them up and dispose of them away from your RV.
Dealing With Roaches
Use store-bought or homemade roach bait to get the roaches to come out. Keep in mind that insecticide can be harmful to pets and children, so take any precautions needed.
Dealing With Bees
If you spot a nest, use hornet spray or flood the nest with a soapy solution. Don't forget to wear protective gear to reduce the chances of getting stung.
